Consumer Unit (Fuse Board)
Consumer Units (CUs), often referred to as ‘fuse boards’ are used to distribute your electricity supply to the different circuits within your home.
The older types of CU such as those with either rewire-able fuses or just MCB’s (Miniature Circuit Breakers) are designed to protect the installation by limiting the amount of current that can flow through a particular circuit. What they are not designed to do is to detect when the electricity is flowing through an undesirable path…i.e. YOU!!
Modern CU’s generally incorporate devices such as RCD’s or RCCB’s which ARE designed to prevent an individual from coming to harm by swiftly disconnecting the electrical supply when a fault is detected.
WCS only fit the very latest Amendment 3 compliant CU’s which fully conform to the current electrical regulations and incorporate the very latest safety devices. If you are considering upgrading your current consumer unit or would just like some advice on your current installation please give us a call and we will happy to help.
Lighting Design and Installation
WCS specialise in all types of domestic indoor and outdoor lighting, from basic pendant style light fittings to downlighters, wall lighting, LED strip lighting and many more.
Building regulations (part L) require that at least 75% of the lighting in any new dwelling, including extensions and loft conversations are low energy. WCS are can supply and fit all types of low energy lighting ensuring your build meets these regulations.
We also specialise in fitting Megaman smart lighting systems which allow you to control all aspects of your lighting from your phone or tablet. Please call for further details.
Do you sometimes wish you had more sockets to get rid of all those extension leads, or maybe you’d like to change from pendants spotlights? Here at WCS we’d be more than happy to help. We also can connect cookers, showers etc as well as installing electric heating and much more. Please call to find out more.
Boiler and Central Heating Wiring
WCS engineers are fully conversant with wiring for all types of central heating systems, ranging from basic combi boilers and s plan or y plan designs to more complex systems. In addition we are also familiar with both plumbed and electrical under floor heating systems.
The Electricity at Work regulations 1989 require employers to ensure that any equipment with the potential to cause injury must be maintained. Although these regulations do not specifically state that a PAT test must be carried out it is often a good idea to do so as a visual check may miss potential dangerous faults. Landlords are also required to ensure any appliances are safe to use.
WCS can offer a full PAT testing service from just a few items to complete office blocks and multi-tenancy buildings. Prices available on request.
EICR Testing (Periodic)
An Electrical Installation and Condition Report (previously known as Periodic Inspection Reports – PIR) is carried out to ascertain the condition and safety of a existing electrical installation. It is recommended that any rented accommodation has an EICR every 5 years or prior to a new tenant moving in. It is also recommended that any employer has their installation checked regularly as per their requirements under the Electricity at Work act.
Prices for EICR are subject to the size of the installation. Please call 01903 905 703 for details.
